Movers and Shakers is now being implemented in Nottingham, Manchester and East London. The M&S team are talking about the scheme to many cycling groups around the country - contact us if you'd like us to come to your group!

The M&S video was shown again at a very successful and well-attended 'Cycling in Putney' weekend on 18th October 2008. Speakers at the event were Justine Greening, local MP and 'Mover and Shaker', and Koy Thomson, Director of LCC. See the WCC website for more details.

Movers and Shakers part II is now in progress. Please contact us if you fit the bill for training and would like to spread the word about your experience of cycling in the local community.

WCC’s Movers and Shakers project has won the the Cycling for Adults award at the TfL Cycling Communities Awards this week. Congratulations to everyone involved in M&S, especially Susie for coming up with the idea and all our Movers for taking part and really making a difference.

Movers and Shakers has also been Highly Commended in the Green Guardian awards in South London this week. More details when the Green Guardian puts them on their website.

Movers and Shakers has won the London Cycling Award for Best Community Cycling Initiative at the London Cycling Campaign Awards at City Hall in October.

The Project

Movers and Shakers is an innovative action research project aimed at giving potential role models throughout Wandsworth the opportunity to have professional cycle training and then to tell everyone about their experiences. We have targeted local opinion-formers, such as elected representatives, celebrities, community and faith leaders, educationalists, business leaders and journalists.

We enabled our Movers to start cycling (or to cycle more), to gain a better understanding of cyclists’ concerns, and to promote their experiences and cycling awareness through media coverage in Wandsworth and beyond. We also explored the barriers to, and perceptions of, cycling as a mode of transport, since this will provide valuable feedback for future campaigns.
